Endangered Species Conservation Grants
Background
In 1999, The United States Fish and Wildlife Service issued a Biological Opinion (to protect endangered species) as part of the Solano Project Contract Renewal. One of the recommendations in the Biological Opinion is for the United States Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) to establish a Conservation Program to identify projects and funding to protect and preserve endangered species in the Solano Project service area. These projects are activities that are intended to further the purpose of the Endangered Species Act, such as preservation of endangered species habitat, implementation of recovery actions, or development of information and databases (USFWS 1999). The Water Agency administers this program on behalf of the BOR.
